18-24 March Elderly Week Event

With the cooperation of Faculty of Health Sciences and Vocational School of Health Services, "18-24 March Elderly Week Event" was held in Bartın Mehmet Rıfat Efendi Student Dormitory on Monday, March 20, 2023, with earthquake survivors from 11 cities affected by the earthquake. The event started with the opening speech of Associate Professor Hacer YALNIZ DİLCEN, Director of the Vocational School of Health Services, in which she talked about the week of the elderly and the problems experienced by the elderly after the earthquake. In the event, a seminar on “Hygiene in Elderly Individuals” was given by Dr. Simge ÖZTÜRK, a faculty member of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, in order to maintain the hygiene of the elderly, to prevent infectious diseases, to protect and improve their health. Then, Health Services Vocational School Physiotherapy Program Instructor Miraç SEZER gave a seminar on “Physical Activity and Exercise Practices in Earthquake-Strict Elderly Individuals” in order to increase the physical activity of the earthquake survivors and improve their quality of life. In order to increase muscle strength, elderly people were allowed to do exercises in company with the students of our University Sports Club.

In the continuation of the event, within the scope of the Volunteering Studies course of the Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department students and in cooperation with the Age-Friendly Club of our University, a hygiene package was given to the elderly to support their self-care needs. Afterwards, a flower planting activity was held with elderly individuals in order to reduce the stress caused by the earthquake and to draw attention in a different direction. The earthquake survivors, who participated in the event intensely, expressed that they had a pleasant time. The event was concluded with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation to the speakers by Associate Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Associate Professor Elif KARAHAN. We would like to thank all our earthquake victims and volunteer students who participated in our event.
