Students from the Midwifery Department of Bartın University (BARÜ) Faculty of Health Sciences have undertaken a meaningful project as part of their Social Responsibility Project course, aiming to protect the physical and mental health of pregnant and postpartum women and to raise awareness of active living in society. Aiming to contribute to the Ministry of Health's preventive health services and active living policies, the midwifery students touched the lives of expectant mothers and new mothers with this event.
The “Mothers in Nature, Midwives by Their Side” project, prepared by midwifery students Begüm Kaya, Nisa Nur Alper, Aslı Demirhan, Beyza Boduroğlu, and Şevval Günoğlu under the leadership of Project Coordinator Berna Çağlar, and implemented under the supervision of Dr. Yeliz Çakır Koçak, and accepted by the BARÜ Social Responsibility Project Coordination Office, has been successfully implemented.
Within the scope of the project, 17 women with limited access to hospitals and social activity areas, or those in need of social support during pregnancy/postpartum, were identified. Participants were transported to the event area thanks to coordination and support provided in collaboration with the Bartın Provincial Health Directorate's Martyr Furkan Yılmaz Healthy Life Center.
Light-paced exercises, conducted in the peaceful atmosphere of nature under the guidance of midwives, helped increase the physical endurance of mothers and expectant mothers and reduce pregnancy and postpartum stress. Following the exercise activities, the women received training in four different sessions from midwives, physiotherapists, and child development specialists, and their questions were answered.
The "Mothers in Nature, Midwives by Their Side" project helped reduce participants' anxieties about preparing for childbirth and infant care, and fostered a strong social support network among peers. Midwifery students presented an innovative preventative health model supporting maternal and infant health through this event.
