Students of Bartın University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Midwifery, took their first step into their professional identity by wearing their white coats and receiving their fetoscopes during a meaningful ceremony.
The “White Coat Ceremony and Fetoscope Presentation,” organized by the Department of Midwifery at Bartın University Faculty of Health Sciences, was held on March 24, 2026. The ceremony, symbolizing students’ first step into their professional journey, was marked by strong participation and meaningful moments.
The program began with welcoming the participants, followed by the National Anthem and a moment of silence, and continued with opening speeches. Assoc. Prof. Hacer Yalnız Dilcen, Head of the Department of Midwifery, emphasized in her speech that the white coat represents not only a uniform but also professional responsibility, ethical commitment, and a promise to provide safe and quality care to women, mothers, and newborns. She also highlighted that midwifery is a discipline grounded in scientific knowledge, clinical skills, and ethical values. Prof. Selçuk Baş, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, underlined the importance of educating students as well-equipped health professionals who adhere to ethical values and contribute to society.
During the ceremony, Dr. Serap Öner from Fırat University delivered a talk titled “The First Step into the Profession: The Meaning of the White Coat and Fetoscope.” In her speech, she emphasized that the white coat symbolizes professional identity and ethical responsibility, while the fetoscope is an essential tool for listening to the earliest signs of life and monitoring maternal and fetal health. Following the talk, faculty members dressed the students in their white coats and presented them with their fetoscopes.
Families also attended the ceremony as audience members, and students shared these special moments with their loved ones. The program concluded with commemorative photographs taken by students, faculty members, and families.
The ceremony, representing the beginning of students’ professional identity, concluded with great enthusiasm and pride.
