Social Awareness Project by Midwifery Students: Big Sister-Little Sister Gathering
Midwifery students at Bartın University organized a social responsibility project titled “Big Sister-Little Sister Gathering” to support children under state protection. The project was led by first-year student Türkan Yüksel, with team members Sabina Ruslanova and Yaren Sena Varilci, under the guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Yeliz Çakır Koçak.
Meaningful Connections and Interaction
Bartın Children's Houses, 15 children of secondary and high school age and volunteer midwifery students came together to establish a strong connection. Karaoke activities, tree planting, waffle day, career interview, midwife profession and department promotion and psychological support activities such as unforgettable moments were experienced.
Community Contribution
Dr. Yeliz Çakır Koçak emphasized, “Midwives contribute not only to childbirth but also to every aspect of community health. This project aimed to show the children they are not alone.”
Sustained Communication
The project concluded with plans for future meetings at the university campus. Letters written by the children demonstrated the deep emotional impact and the success of the initiative.
